DESIGN AND FEATURES

WE MADE USEFUL, BEAUTIFUL.

When we set out to design Joule, we simply wanted to take an otherwise simple and humble product and elevate it through thoughtful design. Basically, bring the power strip into the 21st century and out of the dark ages of bland, uninspired design.

We did this with subtle curves wrapped in an anodized aluminum shell with a bevelled edge and laser engraved logo mark. Together these elements give Joule a timeless elegance that complements any setting.

WE MADE USEFUL, MORE USEFUL.

Along the way we fell in love with the process and decided to fix a few other things while we were at it. Below are the highlights of our efforts. We hope you’ll enjoy using Joule as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life.

LIGHTED OUTLETS

We’ve all tried to locate an outlet in the dark to plug something in. Not only is it annoying it’s also unsafe. So we did the simple and logical thing and put lights inside Joule making it easier–and safer–to find an outlet in low light situations.

SURGE PROTECTION

Joule has built in surge protection to to add a layer of protection for your connected devices.

LOW POWER “ECO MODE” SETTING

We added a 3-position switch to Joule when a simple ON/OFF switch would have been just fine. We did this because we saw an opportunity to add a feature that would save energy and money.

Position 1 - All three electrical outlets and two USB outlets provide power and illumination.

Position 2 - Entire Joule unit is completed OFF.

Position 3 - All three electrical outlets and illumination are OFF while USB still supplies power. We did this to eliminate stand-by draw which continues to pull electricity even for devices that are turned off. Click here to learn more.

INTERCHANGEABLE POWER CABLE

Messy cables suck. We are always stuffing the extra cable behind things when it’s too long. And when it’s too short we’re left plugging one power strip into another, which by the way is also not very safe. This is why we gave Joule a detachable cable that can be swapped out for different lengths.

We currently offer a 4 foot cable that comes in the box and an 8 foot cable that can be purchased separately in our online store.

DUAL 2.1 AMP USB PORTS

Different devices like cell phones and tablets require different amounts of juice when charging. Cell phone typically will only take around 1A while tablets can handle more. Joule offers dual 2.1 AMP ports so your electronics are not starving when you need to charge them.

SPECIFICATIONS & PROPER USE

Weight: 205g (7.23oz)

Dimensions: 154mm x 62mm x 34mm

Input: 120VAC 50/60Hz 15A

Output: 120VAC 50/60Hz 15A (Direct)

USB Pots (x2): DC5V 2.1A

Available Colors: Black, White, Red.

Do not use more than 3,600 total watts (grounded) with JouleBAR.

To find the total watts being used:

If watts are not marked on the device, multiply ampere rating by 240 to determine equivalent watts. Add the determined watts for each plugged-in device or lamp, (sum of watts on light bulbs), to find the total watts being used.

Inspect your Joule unit periodically and make sure it’s in good working condition.

Do not use damaged power cables with Joule. Not safe.

Do not modify or repair Joule in any way. Talk to us. That’s what we’re here for.

When unplugged the power cable from Joule or from the wall outlet, do so by holding the plug and not pulling the cable.

 TESTING & CERTIFICATIONS

Obtaining ETL Safety Certification for any product involves an intensive testing process. This process includes high-voltage and stress tests, drop tests, and more. Only once a product passes all these tests is it awarded the Intertek ETL certification.

Once Joule was given this certification, along with others, our quality control did not stop there. At the manufacturing stage each and every Joule product that comes down the assembly line undergoes another inline high-voltage stress test to ensure the electronics are working properly once they’re fitted. After this Joule moves on to final assembly after which every single Joule spends hours in an aging test that runs 235V through it continuously. Only after Joule goes through all this are we satisfied and its sent back to rest in its final packaging on its way to you.
